What the programme itself entails is how to fish and how to enjoy it.
The photography and film work by Hugh Miles is breathtaking, the music and narrative voice of Bernard Cribbins and the humour and wit of Bob James and Chris Yates makes it an unmissable piece of angling history.
The programme describes how two passionate anglers Bob and Chris travel across Britain to rediscover the passion that has been burning inside them since childhood. It also shows us how to enjoy being by the waterside whether it be fishing alone or with friends. The rushing water, the birds singing, the excitement as you hook into a fish for the first time and the unexpected heartbreak when you lose a fish.
The literature sense that is portrayed in the films are unique, one I'm sure has had an effect on many anglers taking up reading of famous anglers and their adventures seeking out those unhidden monsters in mist shrouded pools, haunted lakes the stories told in pubs by many people of lost fish, rumours of record breakers lurking in the depths of rivers and many more amusing stories that can be found in the pages of a book.
Climbing out of a toasted bed and heading out into icy cold weather in pursuance of fish is not something that many anglers would do.
What i love about the programmes is that it holds dear to every angler about what makes us want to go fishing, what makes us head out in the dawn armed with nothing but a fishing rod and line seeking mystical creatures, spending hours hypnotised by the moving water and then heading home with a smile regardless of catching fish or not.
This is the beauty of angling, the nature aspect, the excitement of a twitching line and the sudden stab in the heart when the fish evades capture.
Fishing will always be our pastime something we are never too old to do or too young. And when we cast our final cast we will always remember the programme that portrays everything wonderful about fishing.
